What is the Highway 12 Improvement Project?

Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is planning to work on two sections of Highway 12 through the cities of Litchfield, Darwin, and Cokato in 2024-2025.

Litchfield to Darwin – construction in 2024

  • Resurface Hwy 12 between N Armstrong Ave in Litchfield to east of Meeker CR 14 in Darwin
  • Upgrade sidewalks, including pedestrian ramps, along the project area to meet ADA standards in Litchfield and Darwin
  • New sidewalk will be created between Davis Ave and Hubbard Ave in Litchfield
  • Replace culvert at the county ditch east of the intersection of Hwy 12 and Meeker CR 34 in Litchfield. This will require a short detour for approximately 2 weeks in 2024.
  • Install pedestrian push button station at Davis St

Darwin to Cokato – construction in 2024-2025

  • Repair the concrete between east of Meeker CR 14 (Darwin) to the end of the concrete section in Cokato
  • Upgrade sidewalks and pedestrian ramps in Dassel to meet ADA standards
  • Make ADA improvements to sidewalks and resurface the Darwin Rest Stop
  • Ramps along the trail between Dassel and Cokato will be made to meet ADA standards
